i did a lot of research before madison was born in regards to what she “needed” — and let me tell you there is a LOT of stuff out there and everyone tells you different things. there are checklists and tons of items that you actually DON’T really need from the get go. it’s hard to pick through it all, and we utilized lots of friends and lots of blogs and googling to determine what we actually did need. these items have made the first 3 weeks of mommyhood SO MUCH EASIER & are ones i would say you shouldn’t live without!
.) Swaddle Me Blankets – brian & i found out quickly we are NOT the best swaddlers in the world. & madison is a SQURIMER. every time we try to swaddle her she gets her hands free and so these swaddle blankets have been a savior! she sleeps in her crib already with them
.) Mobi Wrap – this heaven sent makes madison feel like she’s back in the womb, which she LIKES! it also allows me to get some things done while still carrying her close. it isn’t the easiest thing to get ON but once you do it a few times you start to get the hang of it.
.) Boppy Pillow – this makes nursing and bottle feeding and holding, easier! she gets heavy on your arm so this is just a little arm ease assistant. they make them all different colors too & have easy to remove covers for cleaning
.) Dr. Brown’s Bottles – these bottles are awesome! i have been nursing & bottle feeding her my milk, so that brian can bond with her also AND so i can get a little sleep at times. it is the only baby bottle to feature an internal vent system that: helps preserve vitamins C, A, & E by minimizing oxidation of breastmilk and formula; provides positive-pressure vacuum-free feeding similar to breastfeeding; and helps reduce colic, spit-up, burping and gas by eliminating negative pressure and air bubbles. they are the best!
.) Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Deep Blue Sea – you can set up this musical play for up to 18 minutes of classical music, lullabies or ocean sounds, or let baby activate the soothing. madison goes to sleep staring at it and loves the sounds and light up animals.
.) Mamaroo – aka the spaceship! every mom needs one of these! it bounces up and down and sways from side to side, just like we do when comforting madison and it plays music also. there are settings such as car ride, kangaroo, rockabye, tree swing & ocean. it is amazing
.) Ameda Purely Yours pump – i got this pump b/c it was a little less than the Medela but still had good reviews and i love it! i highly recommend it to anyone pumping!
.) Maclaren Quest – we loved this stroller b/c it is lightweight! and is good from newborn & up. if you’re in the city & on the go a lot on your own then check it out. i knew i was going to be solo with madison quite a bit and going to have to do subway and stairs. i needed something i could carry easily. nyc mamas – take note!
