terror. it’s safe to call it that now. i wrote about the colorado shooting a few months ago and i remember my remarks to be something along the lines of we cannot live in fear. however, how can we not? with the recent events of the boston marathon bombing, the robbery, the gunfire & the manhunt – how is that we are supposed to NOT be afraid anymore? i am leaning hard on the words of john kerry  this morning

“I think it is fair to say this entire week we have been in pretty direct confrontation with evil. In the past few days we have seen the best and we have seen the worst of human behavior and it is the best that all of us really want to focus on.”

this is what I am trying to concentrate on. not the evil in this world but the ability for people to rise above it & to help one another. the people who ran INTO danger at the marathon to help those injured. the ones who stayed after the chaos. the police officers and workers who poured over hours of video surveillance to find footage of the suspects. the willingness to risk one’s life for a stranger. being a cop’s wife, i know every day brian’s job is to protect & serve and that can be at any cost. i take pride in my husband’s choice to live this life, and of our friends on the job. the vigilance of the officers in boston right now is the most commendable thing to watch. a peacekeepers job is never done. i pray every soul working for the boston PD makes it home safely tonight, and every night thereafter.

and I pray that the people responsible for this are brought to justice. i pray that I can continue to not let fear overtake me. that i can teach madison to love the world and to love others. there’s far too much hate out there. i want to just give the world a hug. stay safe boston. stay strong.

also if you’re looking for a way to help as i was in what little capacity that i could. ruelala is selling “Honor Boston” t-shirts for $20 – all of the proceeds are going to the emergency medicine fund at massachusetts general hospital, which supports the patients and families affected by the boston marathon tragedy.
