day 31 – a vivid memory
i remember the night i looked at brian & thought to myself, i’m going to marry this man. i remember the baseball cap that was always on his head, a “borrowed” holy cross navy hat. i remember we had just come from a rangers game and he smelled like the ice mixed with dunhill. it was a delicious smell. i remember the way he looked at me as we walked the streets together & noticed we were below the empire state building. it was a sort of one eye brow lifted “should we go?” followed by a big toothy grin from me “of course we should” — neither of us had ever been to the top. we were the last people allowed in before closing time, all tangled arms & smiles as the elevator rose. & when we reached the top & stepped outside onto the ledge, i remember it started to snow. as if the snow was just waiting for us – to blanket us. i absolutely love the snow. & bri knows this. & here… this was the moment… this look on his face because he was excited for me. that the snow fell just as we stepped outside & that we were together overlooking this city of ours. wild hearts beating as one. i knew i was staring into the face of the love of my life, the father of my children, the man i’d grow old with. i will never forget that night.
“And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”
